Mbappe hat-trick inspires PSG to overturn Real Madrid deficit
Paris Saint-Germain are into the UEFA Champions League semifinals for the first time since 2021 after pulling off the unthinkable and overturning not only a 3-2 first leg defeat but also going 1-0 down in the return fixture at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Kylian Mbappe was the hero for PSG, scoring a stunning hat-trick to lead his team to a 3-2 aggregate victory. The French forward opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a clinical finish after being played through by Lionel Messi. Karim Benzema equalized for Real Madrid just before half-time, but Mbappe restored PSG's lead in the 61st minute with a superb solo effort.
Real Madrid pressed for an equalizer, but PSG defended resolutely and Mbappe sealed the victory with a third goal in the 79th minute. The French forward's hat-trick was his second in the Champions League this season, and he now has a total of six goals in the competition.
